About Me
Welcome to my Physical Education class.  The following information will help you and your child/ren understand my expectations for my classes this year.

I am very excited to be here at Ballast Point Elementary.  This is my second year here and my sixteenth year teaching physical education.  I will work to create a year that is fun and educational for your child/ren.  P.E. and basic movement qualities are an integral part of life and learning.  I will provide your child with ample opportunities to investigate and expand their bodies' movement potential.

P.E. Happenings
We will have student interns for the rest of the year from The University of Tampa.  For many weeks we will be working on cooperative games and promoting teamwork.  Please feel free to ask your child about what skills and concepts they are learning.

Obesity is a rising epidemic, and it is so easy for us as parents to let video games be a surrogate.  Studies show that exercising before you eat results in people eating smaller portions and making healthier choices.  So please get out and exercise.

Our kickoff fundraiser to raise funds for the covered pavilion on the court will be April 18th, 2009.  It will consist of a live as well as a silent auction.  If you have any auction items to provide or any suggestions, please contact me and I will put you in contact with the representative on that committee.  Invitations will be coming soon!

Expectations

Assessment in P.E. is done based on procedures outlined by the School District of Hillsborough County and the Elementary P.E. guidelines.  Grades are based on an ongoing individual assessment of the students as they participate in class activities and not on a single test (FCAT!)  It is vital that your child participates in all activities.  Good listening skills, cooperation, and responsibility will also be stressed.  When behavior interferes with participation, grades will be affected.

Please be aware of when your child has P.E. by referring to the posted schedule.  They should dress comfortably and according to the weather. Students may not wear boots, cleats, sandals or skate shoes to class.

If your child is to be excused from P.E, a written note from the parent is required.  Any extended absence from P.E. will require a note from a doctor.
