31st~ Early Dismissal at 12:15
Wow! Time sure is flying by awfully fast this year. It’s hard to believe we are almost done with the third nine weeks and entering our final grading period of the year. If you stop and think back to the beginning of the year, we have made a lot of accomplishments! That is something to be proud of Third Graders!
Now it is easy to think, “Well, there’s only three more months left, so I can relax now.” Put that thought on hold until the last day of school. The last nine weeks is more important than ever. It is time to shine! It is time for you to show yourselves that you are getting ready to move on to the next level– Fourth grade.

Here's What's Going On...
Let’s tackle that FCAT!!!
FCAT testing begins March 9th and goes through March 12th. Here are some ways that you can help your child be better prepared for testing: 1.) a good night’s sleep, 2.) remind your child to eat a healthy breakfast either at home or at school for free, 3.) make sure that your child gets to school on time and comes every day, and 4.) promote positive thinking.
You can also have your child get on to Study Island and FCAT Explorer at home.
Language Arts
Third grade will be competing in the Magic Tree House Bowl during the second or third week of May. We will post the actual date on the website when we receive the approved date.
The competition will be on books 1-25.
During the last week of April, they will take a test that covers these 25 books. The students who have the highest scores will be chosen for their homeroom team. Good luck competitors!
Renaissance Place AR will be wrapping up on March 26th. The new goals will be set the following week for their final nine weeks at Ballast
Point.
In addition to our Media Center resources, the public library is another great source. They have a list of RP books for Hillsborough County that you might want to look at before you check out.
MatH
A new computer program has started here at Ballast Point and it’s called FASTT Math. It is a program designed to test all students on basic math facts. This is intended to assist the students in practicing and memorizing their math facts.
Social Studies
We are continuing our adventure of learning about the land and different cultures. We will also extend our discoveries to the many cultures of the world.
Students are currently working in pairs to read and research about their favorite country! We will be spending time in the computer lab utilizing Encyclopedia Britannica online to learn more interesting facts about various countries throughout the world. Students will even create posters to share what they have learned with the rest of the class!

The student planners need to be looked at and signed every night. This is part of your child’s homework responsibilities each night.
Behavior reports go home on Friday and need to be signed and returned at the start of each week.
Homework schedules are stapled in the student planners. This is a schedule of what to expect every week; however, please look in the planner for detailed assignments. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It is a great new website for the students to get more practice for the FCAT. Some of the students have already tried it and love it!!
